Department 56 Christmas In The City collection’s Cathedral Church of St. Mark created a lot of drama when it was first released. This building was originally designed as a Dickens’ Village church; however, it was too large to fit into that collection. Plans were to manufacture the church as a numbered limited edition of 17,500 buildings. But the manufacturing process in 2001 for this large church resulted in severe warping and breakage causing the company to cease production after 6 1/2 months and only 3,024 completed churches that were sellable. Three separate molds were used to create this very large, very impressive cathedral. This is limited edition number 2,881. Since it was made towards the end of the production run, many of the early issues causing poor quality were resolved. There are no obvious flaws noted in this beautiful church. Our packing team places each collectible box under UV light for 10 minutes per exposed surface, which has been shown to eradicate “germs” on the surface. Specific virus names cannot be listed here per policy (apparently); however, you know which one we are targeting. This process does not harm your collectible nor change the printing on the box. Up for sale is a Department 56 collectible porcelain building from the Christmas in the City Series, titled Cathedral Church of St. It was produced in 1991 and was a limited edition series. Originally it was meant to have 17,500 in the limited edition series but the company ran into production problems and the number was lowered to a little over 3000. This one doesn’t have a number stamped on the bottom but there is number 21 stamped on the box. It measures 8 1/2″ tall x 7″ wide x 8 1/2 deep. It comes with a light cord and bulb to light up the interior of the church. The cathedral is in excellent condition, with no chips or cracks. The styrofoam box and cardboard outer sleeve are in very good condition, although the sleeve has a couple creases on the corners.
