From Department 56’s Christmas In The City collection. Bottom is inscribed “Sutton Place Rowhouse”. It’s not unusual to have concave walls due to the difficulty in producing large porcelain buildings in the late 1980s. Please take care to only handle by the solid porcelain sections of the building. No chips, cracks, missing grates, broken areas. There are some areas of manufacturing flaws which were common with this large piece in the mid 1980s. Front, right “sidewalk” porcelain and paint smearing is an example of these inherent flaws. The styrofoam box for this large building was very tight. Most collectors broke the box at one of the corners to give more “wiggle room” to be able to remove and replace the building, rather than risk damaging the building itself. There is one corner that was “opened up” and taped into place in a looser state. Also there are some tears to this 36-year old collectible. (see photos for examples). We recently received almost the entire Christmas in the City, Alpine Village, North Pole, Disney Parks Village series and other Dept 56 villages from a former dealer and serious collector who took great pride in her collection. In order to list as many pieces as quickly as possible, we may just show the box/sleeve in the photos.
